Joshua Zirkzee is not ruling out a loan move away from FC Bayern Munich.

After the departure of Sandro Wagner at the start of 2019, FC Bayern Munich decided to buy a striker two windows later. Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting arrived at Sabner Strasse on the deadline day on a free transfer as his contract at Paris Saint-Germain expired in August.

Choupo-Moting will provide cover for Robert Lewandowski. His experience at the top level with PSG will be handy for Die Roten to navigate through a congested schedule. Lewandowski remains the main man, but his workload needs to be managed to avoid injuries and drop in performance levels.

The arrival of Choupo-Moting could be bad news for Joshua Zirkzee. In the past 12 months, Zirkzee has enjoyed good development in the first team and filled in for Lewandowski on numerous occasions. The Dutch forward was heavily linked with a loan move to Feyenoord late in the window, but a deal couldn’t materialise.

Zirkzee is now going to stay at the club at least till January. He is currently on international duty with the Dutch youth team. In an interview with AD.nl, Zirkzee admitted that he is ready to fight for game time at Bayern, but refuses to rule out a loan move in January.

"“I will stay at Bayern now, but maybe something will happen in the future. I don’t know exactly yet.”“I can still develop very well at Bayern. Who says I’m not going to get minutes? It’s up to me to compete. If so, I can always stay. If not, we still have the January window.”"

More from Bayern Strikes

Zirkzee made his senior debut for Bayern Munich in December against Tottenham Hotspurs in the Champions League. His contributions against Freiburg and Wolfsburg made him a permanent fixture in the team. The Dutch forward scored winning goals in both games, helping Die Roten to kick start an unbeaten run that ended against Hoffenheim last month. He ended the campaign with four goals in the Bundesliga.

Die Roten permanently moved him to the first team this season as he got the number 14 in the squad. Zirkzee has done well in the absence of Lewandowski, so it is surprising to see the German Champions going after a striker late in the window. Die Roten reportedly enquired about Hoffenheim’s Andrej Kramaric before singing Choupo-Moting.

Zirkzee’s playing time in the next three months is going to be reduced due to the arrival of new players. The German club also bolstered the attack by signing Douglas Costa on a year-long loan deal from Juventus. Zirkzee may have to rely on playing time in the reserves team to keep his fitness.

The German Champions should arrange a loan transfer for Zirkzee when the transfer window opens in January. Zirkzee has the talent to succeed in Bavaria, but at this stage of his career, he needs regular playing time to develop into a top player.
