Hasan Salihamidizc satisfied with the transfer business at FC Bayern Munich.

FC Bayern Munich had a busy summer transfer window as they looked to improve the treble-winning squad. Despite a historic campaign, there were few holes to plug in the squad ahead of a congested campaign.

The German Champions kicked off the window by completing the signing of Leroy Sane from Manchester City. Sane was the top transfer target for the club last summer, but a serious knee injury scuppered the deal. Die Roten didn’t want to risk the transfer this summer, so they moved quickly to seal the deal.

Along with Sane, Tanguy Kouassi and Alexander Nubel also arrived at the club in July. The European Champions waited till the final week of the window to sign five more players to complete the squad for this season.

Hasan Salihamidzic is the person that manages the transfer business at Bayern Munich. He has been under scrutiny in the past, but the club promoted him to the board at the end of the 2019/20 season. Speaking to Kicker, Salihamidzic admitted that Die Roten had done good business in a pandemic affected market.

"“We are satisfied. The tight schedule and the loss of many players from last season made it necessary to expand with the squad both in terms of quality and depth. Some people also forgot that we secured Nübel, Kouassi, and Sane by July”“Corona has limited our transfer budget. Even if it is customary at FC Bayern that transfers fit into a reasonable overall economic framework, the challenge this time has been greater than usual.”"

More from Bayern Strikes

Flick had been consistently admitting in the media that he wanted a right-back and winger this summer after the departure of Alvaro Odriozola, Philippe Coutinho, and Ivan Perisic. He had to wait till the end of the window to fill these positions as Die Roten monitored all possibilities during the window.

Bouna Sarr and Douglas Costa (loan deal) will fill the positions that Flick wanted. The German Champions also added an experienced striker in Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting to provide cover for Robert Lewandowski. Since Thiago Alcantara left the club, Rekordmeister also got Marc Roca from Espanyol. The 23-year-old midfielder has been Bayern’s long term transfer target. On the final day, Bayern also signed exciting young midfielder Tiago Dantas on loan from Benfica.

Die Roten deserves praise for bulking up the squad for this season. However, there were few disappointments for the club in the window. They wanted to sign Sergino Dest from Ajax, but Barcelona managed to beat them in this transfer. Rekordmeister also tried to sign Callum Hudson-Odoi from Chelsea, but the English club rejected the bid.

Salihamidzic also provided an update on Joshua Zirkzee as the youngster was linked with a loan move to the Netherlands. However, the transfer didn’t materialize. Salihamidzic insisted that Zirkzee is ready to fight for a place in the team, and the club completely trusts him.
