FC Bayern Munich set to sign Marc Roca from Espanyol
FC Bayern Munich is reportedly close to improve the midfield department.
With two days left in the transfer window, FC Bayern Munich is looking to improve few positions in the squad. The midfield department was less of a priority, but the German club has decided to bolster this area as they are closing on the fourth signing of the summer.
According to Sky Sports in Germany, FC Bayern Munich is close to completing the transfer of Marc Roca from Espanyol. This report insists that the fee for the Spanish midfielder is likely to be in the region of €15 million. Fabrizio Romano and SportBild’s Christian Falk has also confirmed that Roca is close to joining Die Roten.
The German Champions were heavily linked with a move for Roca last summer, but the transfer didn’t materialize as both clubs couldn’t reach an agreement regarding the transfer fee. Espanyol got relegated from La Liga last season, so Die Roten had the upper hand in negotiations this summer.
Roca primarily operates as a holding midfielder. He was one of the best holding midfielders for the past couple of seasons in La Liga. The Spaniard is positionally astute, and he also boasts a fairly decent passing range. He may need some time to get used to the Bundesliga, but for the reported transfer fee, he is a very good acquisition.

Rekordmeister parted ways with Thiago Alcantara this summer. He had only one year left on his contract, so Die Roten decided to grant his wish of a new challenge by agreeing to a transfer fee with Liverpool. Javi Martinez is also likely to leave Bavaria before the window shuts since he has only one year left on his contract.
Mickael Cuisance was also close to joining Leeds United, but his transfer fell through at the last moment. The French midfield is back in Munich. It remains to be seen whether he gets a different transfer sorted before Tuesday. Considering the possible departures, Roca’s transfer makes a lot of sense as it improves the quality of the midfield.
Roca is likely to be back up option for Joshua Kimmich in the midfield since the German midfielder has been playing as a holding midfielder. If Rekordmeister fails to sign a right-back, then Kimmich can fill in there whenever needed while Roca starts in the number six position.
Apart from Roca, Die Roten is likely to work on transfers of a winger and right-back before the end of the window. Callum-Hudson Odoi has emerged as the transfer target for the attack, while it is yet to be seen whether Rekordmeister approach alternative transfer targets in the right-back position after losing out Sergino Dest to Barcelona.
