FC Bayern Munich is close to agreeing to a deal with HSV for Sven Ulreich.

The goalkeeping situation has been interesting at FC Bayern Munich after developments in the past nine months. With three good goalkeepers at the disposal, Die Roten had to find a way to balance the squad by parting ways with one player. It looks like Sven Ulreich is going to be that player.

According to Sport1’s Florian Plettenberg, Ulreich is close to joining Hamburger SV. He also insists that Die Roten is paying off Ulreich since HSV cannot afford the wages and transfer fee together. Ulreich is expected to undergo medical on Saturday to complete the transfer.

Earlier this week, there were reports in Germany suggesting that Alexander Nubel could be going out on loan. In the wake of Ulreich’s transfer, Nubel is likely to stay in Bavaria and become the deputy for Manuel Neuer this season.

Ulreich has endured a rollercoaster time at FC Bayern Munich. The German goalkeeper arrived at the club from VfB Stuttgart in 2015. For the first couple of years, he was deputy for Neuer and got very little playing time in domestic competitions.

More from Bayern Strikes

After Neuer suffered a serious injury in 2017, Ulreich was deployed in the goal for the majority of the season. He ended up making 47 appearances across all competitions. The German goalkeeper delivered consistent performances that helped him in getting a new contract at the club. He was close to leaving Die Roten after two campaigns, but consistent playing time in the third season convinced him to stay at the club.

For a brief period, there was speculation surrounding the future of Neuer when Nubel arrived at the club. However, Die Roten always insisted that Neuer is not going anywhere, and he will remain number one. Neuer went on to sign a contract extension in April.

Ulreich was the odd one out as Nubel’s representatives insisted that Rekordmeister had offered him perfect package in terms of playing time and wages. It was evident that Ulreich’s time at the club was up. The German goalkeeper also insisted that he will be looking to leave Bavaria to get more playing time.

In terms of trophies, it has been a successful period for Ulreich at Die Roten. He was a reliable goalkeeper and did well whenever he was called upon. The German champions will have two top goalkeepers this season, so they will have to be careful with the management of their game time.
