Bayern Munich faces the risk of losing out Sergino Dest to Barcelona.
There has been clarity from day one of this summer transfer window about positions Bayern Munich wants to reinforce. They improved the attack instantly by signing Leroy Sane from Manchester City and parted ways with Ivan Perisic and Philippe Coutinho after their loan spells expired. Right-back is the other position that Rekordmeister wants to improve.
Sergino Dest has been the primary target for the European Champions in the right-back position. After getting a significant fee from Liverpool for Thiago Alcantara, Die Roten stepped up negotiations with Ajax to sign Dest. However, recent updates regarding this transfer don’t sound positive for the German club.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Barcelona is getting confident about signing Dest from Ajax, but Bayern is yet to give up on this transfer. Meanwhile, De Telegraaf’s Mike Verweij reports that Ajax is closing on reaching an agreement regarding the transfer fee with both clubs, indicating that the player will have the chance to decide his destination.
Dest has been heavily linked with a move to Bavaria since January. Die Roten reportedly had a bid rejected for the teenager, and Dest also confirmed the interest of the German club. Things went quiet on this front since the start of the window as Rekordmeister looked to seal departures before making more signings.

Earlier this year, there were reports in Germany suggesting that Die Roten was the preferred destination for Dest. Sport1’s Florian Plettenberg reported this week that the teenager is convinced about joining the German Champions joining the club.
All things should be pointing towards Dest choosing Bavaria over Barcelona, but there is an argument of getting more playing time in Spain. Barcelona decided to sell Nelson Semedo to Wolverhampton Wanderers this week, opening up a chance for the new right-back to become the first choice option. At Bayern, Dest may act as a cover for Benjamin Pavard and play lesser than what he will do in Spain.
In terms of Sporting ambitions, Bavaria remains a much more attractive option than Barcelona. They won the treble last season and clinched the Supercup against Sevilla on Thursday. Hansi Flick has a young team at his disposal, so this group of players is likely to get better when they enter the peak years of their career.
There are ten days left in the window, so the outcome of this transfer will be known sooner rather than later. Die Roten may miss out on Sergino Dest, but they will surely sign another right-back before the deadline day.
