Bayern Munich has been linked with a sensational move for former forward Mario Gotze.

There are less than two weeks left in the summer transfer window. Bayern Munich is expected to be active in the rest of the window as Hansi Flick wants to strengthen at least two positions in the squad to navigate through a congested campaign.

The attacking department is one of the areas Flick is keen to improve. The German manager wants to add a wide player after the club couldn’t reach an agreement with Inter Milan to sign Ivan Perisic permanently. Moreover, Philippe Coutinho has also returned to Barcelona after the completion of his loan spell.

Die Roten has lately linked with very few attacking players. This week there was a surprising development regarding the club’s pursuit of a forward. According to SportBild, Flick is trying to convince the club hierarchy to sign Mario Gotze, and he has already contacted the player. The German forward is currently without a club since his contract with Borussia Dortmund expired at the end of the last campaign.

As per this report, the club chiefs are reluctant to bring Gotze back at the club. The German outlet insists that Gotze will be open to signing a two-year deal if a transfer materializes. Die Roten can explore the market until October 5. If they couldn’t add a forward to the squad, then they can sign Gotze as a stop-gap solution.

More from Bayern Strikes

Meanwhile, Sky Sports in Germany report that there is no interest in bringing Gotze back at the club. Flick has been in touch with Gotze due to their time at the national team. The former Borussia Dortmund forward is subject to interest from Sevilla and Valencia.

Die Roten had made Gotze as the most expensive German player in 2013. He arrived with a lot of expectations from Dortmund but struggled to impose himself during his three-year stint at the club. The German forward manage to find the net 36 times and created 24 goals in 114 appearances for Rekordmeister. He returned to Dortmund in 2016 after the departure of Pep Guardiola. Flick has done brilliantly with older players in Bavaria. Thomas Muller and Jerome Boateng have rediscovered their good form after a tough few seasons with Die Roten. Gotze is still in his prime, so this could turn out to be a shrewd move if Flick can get the best out of him.

Apart from Gotze, the European Champions have been linked with a move for Callum Hudson-Odoi. The English winger is struggling to get regular playing time at Chelsea, so Bayern reportedly wants to bring him to the club on a loan deal. It remains to be seen whether a deal could be struck with the English club. For now, nothing looks imminent regarding arrival in the attacking department.
