Joshua Kimmich wants to leave a glittering legacy at Bayern Munich.

Bayern Munich showed that they are a relentless team after starting the new campaign with an emphatic 8-0 win against Schalke on Friday. The German Champions looked determined to get their title defense on the right note.

There has been very little time to get over the hangover of an incredible treble-winning campaign. Die Roten completed the treble on August 21 with a narrow 1-0 win against Paris Saint-Germain in Lisbon. The German club showed no signs of complacency or a laid back attitude against Schalke.

Joshua Kimmich epitomized the attitude of the team on Friday. The German midfielder switched to number six kit number after the departure of Thiago Alcantara. Kimmich dominating the proceedings and showed that he is ready to play a starring role in more success at Allianz Arena.

Ahead of the new campaign, Kimmich spoke about the importance of building on to last season’s success. While speaking to Suddeutsche Zeitung (via Bundesliga.com), Kimmich insisted that he wants to create a legacy at the club, not just win big trophies in one season.

"“It’s not like, although we’ve now won the Champions League, we now think we can take a breather since we’ve fulfilled our career objectives.”“We want to prove that we belong at the very top permanently. We want to define an era, also with the national team.”"

More from Bayern Strikes

Die Roten will have more trophies to win this season. By the start of October, they could already have two hands on two trophies. They are set to face Sevilla in UEFA Supercup later this month, while the first day of October will see Die Roten take on Borussia Dortmund in DFL Supercup.

Later this year, Rekordmeister will be participating in the Club World Cup. Keeping the players hungry throughout the campaign is one of the few things to watch out this season. Kimmich has always been demanding on the pitch and off the pitch, so it is hardly surprising to see him rallying the troops with his comments this week. He is destined to become the club captain in the future.

The rebuild done by Die Roten has been impressive. Most of the players in the starting XI are soon going to enter their peak, so there is a very strong chance of the team getting better in the coming seasons. Keeping the right mix of young and experienced players will allow the team to make a legacy that Kimmich was talking about this week.

Along with the right motivation of players and managing the workload of them, recruits are paramount for Flick to navigate through a tight schedule this year. The German manager is looking to add a right-back and winger to the squad before the end of the transfer window on October 5.
