With the 2020/21 Bundesliga campaign to kick off for Bayern Munich, here are three key players for their opening fixture.

After a brief hiatus following the UEFA Champions Leauge triumph, Bayern Munich are back in action. They will open the 2020/21 Bundesliga season against Schalke on Friday night at Allianz Arena.

Their opponents are a club they defeated twice in the Bundesliga last season. As a result, Die Roten will be heavily favored to take all three points at home. They’ve found great success against Schalke, sp anything other than three points will not be a welcome result.

Here are three key players for Rekordmeister against Schalke on Friday night.

Leroy Sane

The summer signing is set to make his return to the Bundesliga. Coincidently, his first appearance back in the German top-flight will be against his former club. Sane has yet to feature in a competitive fixture for Bayern, so this will be his first opportunity to make a difference.

A goal or an assist for Sane in this match would be a great start for him in Bavaria. He appeared to be in good form based on his performances for Germany’s national team in the recent Nations League fixtures. Sane could prove to be the difference-maker in his first Bundesliga match in Bavarian colours.

More from Bayern Strikes

Niklas Sule

Sule could start in place of Jerome Boateng, who was dealing with a thigh strain injury but has since returned to training. If the German center back gets a place in the starting XI, he will have to help anchor the backline along with David Alaba.

Die Roten’s backline has done very well against Schalke in recent meetings. Four of the last six Bundesliga matches between the two clubs have been clean sheets for the defending champions. Sule can help step in for Boateng and continue the defensive dominance displayed in this match.

Robert Lewandowski

The Bundesliga champions’ star striker has been a lethal goal scorer when he faces Schalke. The last time he failed to score against the club from Gelsenkirchen in a Bundesliga fixture came in the 2015/16 campaign. Last season he scored a hat-trick in Die Roten’s first match against Schalke, and then a goal and an assist in the second meeting.

Lewandowski has been very clinical when he faces Schalke, so this match will likely continue the trend. He can get off to a very good start to the season with a couple of goals in Rekordmeister’s opening fixture. Look out for another multi-goal performance from the star striker.
