Bayern Munich intensify negotiations to sign Sergino Dest from Ajax
Bayern Munich are reportedly in advanced negotiations with Ajax for Sergino Dest.
After the conclusion of the departure of Thiago Alcantara to Liverpool, Bayern Munich will be looking to invest money in arrivals. Hansi Flick has been confident about signings as he wants to bolster his attack and defense.
In defense, Flick wants to add a right-back to the squad, which will provide cover for Benjamin Pavard. Sergino Dest from Ajax has been reportedly identified as the ideal candidate for this position. On Thursday, there were further developments on Die Roten’s interest in Dest.
According to Telegraaf (Subscription needed), Die Roten officials are in Amsterdam to hold talks with Ajax to complete a deal for Dest. Bild’s Christian Falk also confirmed that the German Champions and Barcelona are both in talks to sign Dest. ESPN is also reporting that Rekordmeister are front runners to complete the deal for Dest.
Sky Sports in Germany provide further insight into negotiations between two clubs. Ajax initially wanted €30 million, but the German club offered €10 million. However, both clubs are getting close, so a deal could be struck soon. The German media outlet also insists that Die Roten has already agreed personal terms with the young defender.

Flick expressed his desire to sign a right-back in January. The German Champions reportedly tried to sign Dest in the winter market, but a move didn’t materialize. Flick eventually got his request fulfilled as Alvaro Odriozola arrived in Bavaria on a six-month loan spell from Real Madrid.
Odriozola struggled to impose himself in the first team, so he returned to Madrid last month. Dest was consistently linked with Die Roten after the January window was shut. The teenage full-back also confirmed the interest of Rekordmeister, so it is not a surprise that the German club has stepped up interest as soon as one departure is close to completion.
Dest will provide cover for Pavard, allowing Joshua Kimmich to keep playing in the midfield after Thiago’s departure. The 19-year-old full-back will provide much more impetus in the final third compared to Pavard. Having different types of profiles in this position will provide tactical flexibility to Flick in the upcoming challenging 2020/21 campaign.
Along with Dest, Die Roten were also linked with Norwich defender Max Aarons. The English defender is likely to be on the move after Norwich were relegated to the Championship. For now, Dest looks to be favourite for this position. After a quiet August, Die Roten is now active in the market, and they are pushing for the top target in the right-back position.
