Goal fest in London during Champions League Games

The tone of Die Roten’s Champions League campaign was set by two dominant performances in London. They faced Tottenham Hotspurs and Chelsea at different stages of the European competition last campaign.

On the first trip to London during October, Bayern faced the previous year’s runners up at London Stadium. Spurs were going through a poor run of form, but they remained a dangerous side on their day. The hosts opened the scoring. Die Roten showed no signs of panic and came back into the game strongly and went for the kill after getting the upper hand. Serge Gnabry starred on the night as the German club hammered seven goals against Spurs.

The second trip to London came in February against Chelsea. In their previous meeting in the CL, the Blues had defeated Die Roten at Allianz Arena to lift the CL title, so the German club had few things to settle going into this game. From the kickoff, Rekordmeister dominated Chelsea and came back home with a comfortable three-goal lead in the round of 16 tie.

In the previous few campaigns, Die Roten have struggled to come with solid performances against big sides. The two big wins against Chelsea and Spurs felt like the tide has turned, and Die Roten could go on deep in the competition. Most importantly, the level of dominance in both games will make sure that these victories will be fresh in the fans’ memory for a long time.
