Historic Champions League victory against Barcelona

Bayern were handed a tough route to the final of the Champions League. They were drawn against Barcelona in the quarterfinal. Manchester City were expected in the semi-final, but Lyon had delivered a brave performance to cause an upset against the English side.

Die Roten were marginal favourites in the quarter-final due to the inconsistent performances from Barcelona over the season. The Spanish side had lost Copa Del Rey and La Liga title, making them an even more dangerous opponent since CL was their only shot for the trophy during the 2019/20 campaign.

The game started in the most chaotic manner as both sides scored in the first 15 minutes. But as the dust settled, Bayern continued to impose themselves. By the half an hour mark, the German club had already put the game to bed by racing to a 4-1 lead.

Despite a successful first half for Die Roten, Barcelona were expected to respond. After all, they have one of if not the best player the game has seen, so they can never be ruled out. However, Bayern’s determination to go for the kill helped them in delivering a historic result as they scored four more goals in the first half. It was one of the biggest wins for Die Roten in the Champions League and Barcelona’s worst. This win made sure that Bayern were clear favourites for the title.
