Bayern Munich legend Uli Hoeness urges David Alaba to sign the contract extension.

Along with new signings, Bayern Munich fans are eagerly waiting for David Alaba to extend his contract at the club. The Austrian defender has entered the final year of his current deal. As things stand, he could be open to signing a pre-contract agreement with foreign clubs in January.

Alaba and his representative have been firm regarding the wage demands. The 28-year-old defender reportedly wants wages close to €20 million per year to justify his importance in the first-team squad.

The recent update from Germany suggests that Die Roten remain far apart from reaching an agreement with Alaba regarding a new deal. The club hierarchy was cautiously optimistic about a breakthrough after holding talks with Alaba’s agent in Lisbon last month.

Uli Hoeness delivered a scathing attack on Alaba’s agents this week. While speaking to Sport1 over the weekend, Hoeness urged Alaba to stay in Bavaria as there is no other better club right now to join. He also insisted that Alaba should not get influenced by people surrounding him.

"“Alaba has a greedy piranha for an agent. He lets himself be influenced by him very much.”“This is really all about the money. He is already at the best club in the world. Where else would he go? We had a coffee several times over the past weeks, but because of Zahavi there has not been a result yet.”"

More from Bayern Strikes

Die Roten has been in a deadlock with Alaba from the start of the year. The Austrian defender appointed Pini Zahavi as his new agent in 2020, making negotiations over a new deal even more difficult. The Austrian defender has been linked with Spanish giants in the past, while several other top European clubs are reportedly monitoring his situation at the club.

Alaba has been a key player for Die Roten for numerous campaigns. He has been one of the best left-backs in Europe during the last decade. In the treble-winning campaign under Hansi Flick, Alaba was moved into central defense. His astute passing and defensive awareness helped him to enjoy a good run of form in this position.

Flick would be desperate to keep Alaba since he is the main man in the back four. Due to the emergence of Alphonso Davies, Alaba’s future at Die Roten is likely to be in the heart of the defense. From a player’s perspective, it is understandable that they are looking for a lucrative contract since it is likely to be Alaba’s last big deal.

The German Champions were in a similar position when Robert Lewandowski was agitating for a move away from the club. Lewandowski also appointed Zahavi as his new agent to broker a move. The club stood firm and managed to negotiate a contract extension for Lewandowski last year. Hopefully, Alaba’s situation also ends up with the same outcome.
