Bayern Munich kickstart preparations for the new campaign as players return to training.

It has been a quick turnaround after the end of the last campaign. Three weeks ago, Bayern Munich were preparing for the Champions League final against Paris Saint-Germain. On Friday, players started preparation for the 2019/20 campaign by starting training on the pitch.

Tanguy Kouassi was the only absentee in the first team training as he suffered a thigh injury on international duty with the U-20 French squad. Hansi Flick confirmed this week that the young French defender will be out for six to eight weeks due to injury.

Players that reported for international duty were also back in training. Most of the players were given breaks by national teams due to the extended last campaign. Niklas Sule didn’t feature much for Die Roten, so he was called up for the German national team. Leroy Sane also got much needed playing time on the pitch with the German team during the break.

Lucas Hernandez also featured for the French national team during the break. The French defender has struggled to break into the starting XI in Bavaria since Flick decided to stick with David Alaba and Jerome Boateng in the heart of the defense.

Thiago Alcantara was also present in the training on Friday. The reports in Germany this week suggested that the Spanish midfielder was given extra time off after playing 180 minutes for Spain during the international break. The former Barcelona midfielder is expected to leave the club in the next three weeks. He has been heavily linked with Liverpool, but his presence in training suggests that a transfer is not imminent.

Javi Martinez also trained with the first team. Along with Thiago, he is also expected to part ways with Die Roten this summer. The veteran midfielder has been heavily linked with a move back to Athletic Bilbao. The German Champions is not going to stop in Martinez’s way if an offer comes for him.

Boateng was training individually as he continues his recovery from the injury that forced him to come off against Paris Saint-Germain in the final. The future of the German defender is uncertain as he has less than ten months left on the current deal.

The players might be suffering from the hangover of an incredible end of the last campaign. After winning the treble last season, Flick will have a challenge on his hand to keep players hungry for more success as there are six trophies to be won this season. The German Champions begin their title defense against Schalke next weekend.
