Robert Lewandowski plans to play for long time at Bayern Munich
Robert Lewandowski is eager to play longer at the top level with Bayern Munich.
It was a remarkable season for Bayern Munich and Robert Lewandowski. The German club won the second treble, turning around their campaign under Hansi Flick. Lewandowski also enjoyed the best campaign of his career by being the top scorer in every competition.
The Polish striker scored 55 goals across all competitions and grabbed ten assists. Die Roten were frustrated after France Football cancelled Ballon d’Or ceremony for this year due to pandemic as Lewandowski was favourite to win the award due to his memorable campaign.
In the Bundesliga, Lewandowski enjoyed a phenomenal first half of the campaign, scoring almost every game in the league. He slowed down a bit during the second half but still ended up scoring 34 goals, winning the golden boot award for the third consecutive season.
Speaking to Kicker (via Bundesliga.com) this week, Lewandowski opened up about his long term plans at Bayern. The Polish striker believes that he has a good feeling about playing at the top due to his good fitness. He also refused to rule out signing another contract and end his career in Bavaria.
"“I feel better than I did at 26, not just physically, but also in terms of my footballing and technical ability. I’ve been working very hard over the past few years to reach my optimum level.”Ending my career at FC Bayern is an option, of course. My current contract is not my last. I want to play even longer. I want to achieve even more. My teammates in Munich feel the same way.”"

Lewandowski was agitating for a move away from the club two summers ago. The club stood firm and rejected his request. He ended up staying and enjoyed another 40 goal season under Niko Kovac. The Pole was well supported by the club in the media during tough times, which they had not done in previous campaigns. After feeling the support at the club, Lewandowski signed a new contract at the start of last season.
With no speculation surrounding his future, Lewandowski got even better this campaign. He scored tons of goals and worked hard for the team. His work rate had improved along with the creative aspect of his game. The Pole’s hard work was rewarded with a Champions League medal that has been eluding him for years.
Lewandowski missed only four games this season when he suffered an injury against Chelsea in February. He has an impeccable fitness record since moving to Bavaria, so he can enjoy playing at the top level for a longer time than other forwards.
Die Roten should also support Robert Lewandowski by signing an able back up striker. Joshua Zirkzee has covered well for the Polish striker, but it remains to be seen whether he can do the job on a long term basis. Lewandowski is ageing like a fine wine, so Bavarians can expect him to be even better next season.
