Bayern Munich midfielder reportedly held talks with Manchester United.

The international football returns this week as European countries play each other in UEFA Nations League. Meanwhile, clubs look to conduct transfer business as 32 days are left in the transfer window. Bayern Munich is also expected to welcome new faces while some senior players are expected to leave.

Thiago Alcantara is set to bring curtains down on his successful time in Bavaria this summer. The Spanish midfielder has rejected a contract extension with Die Roten as he wants to experience a new adventure. It is widely reported that Thiago is destined to play in Premier League next season.

According to ESPN, Manchester United are interested in Thiago. The report insists that the English club has been invited to held discussions with the midfielder. Sky Italy’s Fabrizio Romano confirmed that United have been in contact with Thiago’s representatives, but the two clubs are yet to hold talks regarding the transfer.

Liverpool has been heavily linked with Thiago, but they are not ready to meet Die Roten’s price while Arsenal’s name has also popped up in the English media. The Spain international has reportedly agreed personal terms with the English champions. It remains to be seen whether the two clubs reach an agreement over the transfer fee.

More from Bayern Strikes

In an ideal scenario, Die Roten would like a bidding war for the Spanish midfielder to get a considerable transfer fee. United have been interested in Thiago in the past, so it is not a surprise that their name has come up when he is definitely leaving the club. Karl-Heinz Rummenigge confirmed that they are expecting an offer for Thiago in the coming days.

Thiago has been the heartbeat of the midfield at Bayern this season. The 29-year-old midfielder operated in a deeper role, helping the team to dominate some of the toughest opponents in Europe. He will be sorely missed since Die Roten doesn’t have a midfielder of similar profile in the squad.

Rekordmeister will be looking to bolster the midfield options once Thiago and Javi Martinez part ways with the club. Inter Milan’s Marcelo Brozovic has been heavily linked with a move to Bavaria. Sport1’s Florian Plettenberg also reported this week that Brozovic is a player that interests the German Champions. He insisted that any deal for the Croatian midfielder is likely to be not involved in a deal for Ivan Perisic.

Thiago is currently on international duty, so the transfer is likely to materialize once he is done with games with Spain. Die Roten will be hoping that departures and arrivals are resolved before pre-season training begins.
