Mixed campaign for goalkeepers

Manuel Neuer – 9/10

Manuel Neuer rolled back years during the 2019/20 campaign. After struggling with the aftereffects of a serious injury last season, Neuer was back to his best this season. He could arguably be considered as best in the world this campaign.

The German international consistently came up with big saves whenever the team needed him the most. Neuer also eradicated uncharacteristic errors he was making last season. The saves against Lyon and Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League showed that he still has few years at the top. He ended the campaign with 22 clean sheets in 50 games across all competitions. In the buildup, Neuer acted as a third center-back. The team always pushed up higher up the pitch, so Neuer’s astute anticipation of danger helped them to eradicate dangerous counter-attacks. His immaculate passing also helped the team to play out from the back. There was a brief spell in the season when there were doubts about his long-term future at the club. However, the club squashed these rumours and extended his contract in April. Despite turning 33, Neuer still has a lot to offer on and off the pitch.

Sven Ulreich – 6/10

A disappointing campaign for the number two goalkeeper at Bayern. Ulreich managed to play only one game this season. The German goalkeeper might have to look for a new club this summer since Die Roten has completed the transfer of Alexander Nubel from Schalke. Ulreich has been a good professional for Bayern, but he deserves to play regularly at this stage in his career.
