Bayern Munich have added another Scottish player to their youth teams.

Another Celtic youth player has been acquired by Bayern Munich. Winger Barry Hepburn was announced as the latest signing on Friday. The 16-year-old will be joining the youth team set up at Die Roten.

Hepburn becomes the second youth player from Celtic to be signed by the Bundesliga club. Liam Morrison joined last summer at the age of 16. Morrison has gone on to play for Bayern’s U-17 team and made 14 appearances with one goal and two assists.

The Scottish signings continue for Bayern Munich

The Scottish Premiership has not been a major source of players for the Bundesliga over the years. As a result, the recent signings the treble winners have made are a new trend in the German top division.

Morrison has already been a key player at the center back for Die Roten’s youth teams and should get more opportunities with the U-19 team this season. Hepburn will now join Morrison by attempting to take a similar path his fellow countryman has taken.

More from Bayern Strikes

Both players have featured for Scotland’s youth teams and are up and coming prospects for the senior national team. If they can reach  Die Roten’s first team then they will certainly become two of the top players Scotland will have available in their player pool.

Clubs such as Celtic already have a rich history of making Champions League appearances and producing a competitive side in Europe. As a result, both players have already trained at a high-level club.

More signings to come?

The European Champions may not be finished with signing players from the Scottish Premiership this summer. The club have been reported to be in the running to sign Hearts young talent Aaron Hickey. Serie A club Bologna have also been linked to the Scottish player.

Hickey is an 18-year-old left-back who has already been a regular player for Hearts in Scotland’s top flight. During the 2019-20 season, he made 22 appearances with one goal and one assist. After Hearts was relegated to the second division it appears he’s ready to make a move elsewhere.

Die Roten’s second team would likely be the destination for Hickey to prove himself. At 18, he still has many years left to further develop and Bavaria would be an ideal place to help him reach his potential.

Over the next few years, there could be a new crop of Scottish players featuring for the German Champions. If these players can make their way to the first team it could start a further trend of players from Scotland making their way to Germany.
