Bayern Munich is not going to join the race to sign Lionel Messi.

The last two days have been frantic for football across Europe, as Lionel Messi reportedly told Barcelona that he wants to leave. The best player in the history of the game could be available this summer, so obviously, Bayern Munich’s name will also pop up.

However, Bild’s Christian Falk confirmed on Wednesday that Die Roten have no plans to sign Messi this summer. The Argentine forward will fit into every top team in Europe, but the financial aspect of signing him is not feasible for Die Roten in the current climate.

Moreover, the European champions have a very stable lineup right now. Adding Messi will surely improve the squad, but his arrival has some downside too. Die Roten has been particular with their wage structure, so they are unlikely to break that structure even for a player of Messi’s calibre.

Speaking to Tuttosport (via Goal), Karl-Heinz Rummenigge confirmed Rekordmeister’s stance regarding Messi. The club CEO insisted that the club finances don’t align to make a such a monumental signing. He also insisted that it is not the club’s policy to sign older players.

"“No. We can’t pay a player of that size. It is not part of our policy and philosophy.”“Honestly, hearing that Messi could leave Barcelona makes me a little sad. Leo has written the history of that club and in my opinion, he should end his career with the Blaugrana.”"

More from Bayern Strikes

Seeing Messi in Bavarian colours is a mouthwatering prospect, but it can only happen in FIFA or dreams for Bayern fans. Only few clubs such as Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain that have very rich owners can afford the Argentine forward. Die Roten is a top club, but they have ruled out big-money signings this summer due to the pandemic.

Die Roten has focussed on rebuilding the first team by signing young players in the last two windows. They completed the defensive overhaul by signing Lucas Hernandez and Benjamin Pavard last summer. The arrival of Tanguy Kouassi, a young French defender from Paris Saint-Germain, will further add depth in the defense.

The arrival of Leroy Sane this summer shows that the club is replenishing the attacking department. In the last three summers, the club has signed older players, such as Philippe Coutinho, James Rodriguez, and Ivan Perisic, but all of them arrived on loan deals. The Croatian winger may join permanently, but his fee is not huge, and he is likely to be a squad player for Die Roten.

The German champions are likely to do some transfer business in the coming weeks, depending on the departures of Thiago Alcantara and Javi Martinez. The club is reportedly in the market to sign a right-back cover for Pavard and a midfielder to compensate for the departure of two Spaniards.
