Demichelis backs Bayern Munich to win the Champions League against PSG.

Few hours left for an exciting Champions League final between Bayern Munich and Paris-Saint Germain. Die Roten can win their sixth European title, while PSG has the chance of making history by winning their first Champions League title.

Die Roten were favourites for winning the CL title when a new format was announced after the lockdown was over in Europe and football resumed in top leagues. The German Champions have been the in-form team in the continent as they are yet to lose a game in 2020.

Along with winning games, the impressive performance of Die Roten during the long run of wins, which saw them lift the Bundesliga and DFB Pokal, has caught the eye across Europe. The high intensity pressing in the final third has yielded in many high-scoring games for Rekordmeister.

Speaking to Ole (via Goal), Martin Demichelis has backed his former side to create problems for PSG with their pressing in the final third. The Argentine defender also insisted that Rekordmeister is unlikely to make big changes to the style of play to combat the pace of PSG forwards due to the rewards they have earned with their approach in previous games.

"“This time they play against PSG knowing that Neymar, Mbappe, Di Maria are quality players and very fast, but Bayern will go out to play the same way. To cope with the intensity Bayern exerts across every line over 90 minutes is practically impossible for opponents. In general, I see Bayern as stronger than Paris.”“Bayern are not going to modify their structure and way of playing because they have gone through difficult parts in different games.”"

Rekordmeister’s intense pressing was on full display during their knockout games against Chelsea and Barcelona. The English side struggled to match the intensity of Die Roten at Stamford Bridge in February. Chelsea effectively lost the tie in the first leg by conceding three goals in London.

Meanwhile, Barcelona faced the wrath of Die Roten’s intense pressing in Lisbon last week. The German champions recorded a historic 8-2 win against the Spanish side by maintaining an intense press throughout the game. It was the worst defeat Barcelona has ever suffered in their illustrious history in Europe.

Die Roten did struggle against Lyon as the French side threatened on the break. However, quick goals in the first half allowed them to settle down and cruise to a comfortable 3-0 win. The second goal against Lyon summed up Rekordmeister’s pressing as Serge Gnabry won the ball in the final third to initiate the move.

The German Champions are averaging four goals per game in the Champions League this season. They are beating opponents due to their intensity in the final third. However, PSG has quality forwards to exploit their weakness on the break. It is not going to be a straightforward game for Die Roten, but Demichelis makes a fair point regarding pressing as the attack will be the best form of defense for the German Champions later today.
