Bayern Munich players show grit against Lyon-Player Ratings
Gnabry rises up for the big occasion
FWD, Serge Gnabry — 9/10
Gnabry was the most lethal forward for Bayern Munich against Lyon. The German forward operated on the right flank, but his movement across the front line created problems for the French side. Gnabry’s first goal was a trademark Arjen Robben goal. He picked up the ball from the right flank, motored along in central position, and eventually blasted it past the goalkeeper with his left foot. The early goal allowed Die Roten to calm down, and start controlling the game. Gnabry’s second goal showed his awareness to win the ball and then position himself in the right position to finish the move. Yet another top class performance for the 25-year-old winger.
FWD, Thomas Muller — 7.5/10
Muller had a quiet game compared to his usual high standards, but he was still a threat in the final third. When Die Roten were struggled to get the hold of the ball in the first half, Muller dropped deep to provide numbers in the midfield. Once the game started opening up for the German Champions, Muller was pressing the defenders and making clever runs to open up space for other forwards. He had a big chance to get on the scoresheet in the second half, but he couldn’t make the desired contact with the ball. Hopefully, the German forward had saved his best for the final.

FWD, Ivan Perisic — 7/10
Perisic continued his fine run in the starting lineup on Wednesday. He worked hard on the left-flank, helping Davies defensively whenever Lyon was dominating on that flank. The Croatian forward was a headache in the final third for Lyon as he took up some great positions. He should have got on the scoresheet when Davies released him with a wonderful pass early in the second half. It was an encouraging display from Perisic, but he needs to do better with big chances he gets in the final third.
