Robin Van Persie is impressed with Serge Gnabry’s development at Bayern Munich.

Bayern Munich terrorized Barcelona defense with their forwards last weekend. Serge Gnabry was part of the attacking quartet that was causing all sorts of problems for the Spanish side in the final third. The German winger will be a key man for Rekordmeister when they face Lyon later today.

Along with Robert Lewandowski, Gnabry has been the star man for Die Roten in Europe this season. He troubled Chelsea in the round of 16 by scoring two at Stamford Bridge and slotted four past Tottenham Hotspurs in the group stage.

Gnabry was determined to take his game to the next level after a tremendous debut campaign in Bavaria. He has managed to better last season’s goal tally by scoring 21 goals across all competitions till now. The German winger also managed to set up 12 goals, making him a complete wide player. The former Arsenal winger is now considered as one of the best forwards in Europe. He endured struggles in England, but his meteoric rise in Germany has caught everyone’s attention. Speaking to BT Sports, Robin Van Persie praised Gnabry for coming back strongly from his poor loan spell at West Brom to become one of the best wingers in Europe.

"“Unbelievable. That he struggled so much at West Bromwich Albion and he’s now a world-class player at Bayern Munich.”“That’s down to him obviously, he’s a joy to watch.”"

More from Bayern Strikes

It was a surprise transfer when Die Roten agreed to a fee with Werder Bremen for Gnabry three years ago. Gnabry was impressive for Bremen, but it was just one campaign. In hindsight, the whole deal looks like a master stroker from the German Champions.

Gnabry was immediately sent on loan to Hoffenheim after completing a move to Bavaria. The German winger enjoyed a fruitful season under Julian Nagelsmann. He was made a key part of the first team when he returned from the loan spell at Hoffenheim. Gnabry didn’t take long to settle in the team and started delivering good performances consistently. By the end of his debut season in Bavarian colours, he won the player of the year award.

Die Roten decided to reward Gnabry by handing a contract extension. His development at club level didn’t go unnoticed for Joachim Low. Since playing regularly for Die Roten, Gnabry has become a key man for the national team. He has been scoring freely for the national team after being deployed as a striker by Low.

Gnabry has slowly and steadily progressed in his career after a torrid outing in England. He has become the go-to man for Die Roten on either flank. The German international will have more competition next season since the club completed the signing of Leroy Sane from Manchester City. He has delivered under pressure so more competition is going to help in raising his game.
