Leon Goretzka will be the key man in the final third for Bayern Munich

The injury to Benjamin Pavard has created a major selection headache for Hansi Flick. The French defender is unlikely to feature in the upcoming CL games. Flick decided to move Joshua Kimmich back in the right-back position against Olympique Marseille last week. He is likely to stick with this decision against Chelsea.

With Kimmich moving in defense, Leon Goretzka and Thiago Alcantara are likely to form the partnership in the midfield. This change in midfield pairing is also likely to change the role of Goretzka. The German midfielder was rotating with Kimmich at the base of midfield when they have played together since the restart.

More from Bayern Strikes

Thiago is now expected to sit deep and help the team to dictate the game. The Spaniard has been vital for Die Roten this season in dominating big teams in Europe this season. Goretzka will have the job of linking midfield and attack. The German international will also get opportunities to score goals due to his late runs in the box.

Goretzka has improved physically during the lockdown. The German midfielder will be able to hold the ball better against physically imposing midfielders. Considering the change of role for Goretzka, he should be creating havoc in the final third against Chelsea on Saturday.
