Bayern Munich reportedly fails to find a breakthrough for a new deal with Alaba.

Along with completing transfers this summer, Bayern Munich has a big job on their hand of extending the contract of David Alaba. The Austrian defender has rejected a contract offer from the club as he continues to remain firm on his wage demands.

The latest update from Germany on Alaba’s situation is not promising. According to SportBild, the representatives and Die Roten don’t think along the same lines regarding the demanded increase in wages of the defender. As per this report, Alaba wants to become one of the top earners at the club, a figure close to €20 million per year.

Along with this report from Germany, there were murmurs in England and Spain regarding interest from clubs in Alaba. The Daily Telegraph reported that Chelsea and Manchester City are keeping a close eye on the talks between Alaba and Die Roten.

This report also insists that the German Champions are desperate to keep Alaba and allow Thiago Alcantara to leave the club. Both players have one year left on their current contract. As per the English outlet, Paris-Saint Germain, Barcelona, Real Madrid, and Inter Milan are also interested in Austrian international.

More from Bayern Strikes

Meanwhile, Sport in Spain insists that Alaba has offered himself to Barcelona. The Spanish club has been in direct contact with Alaba’s father regarding negotiations with the German champions. The Austria international has been previously linked with Barcelona, while Alaba’s father also insisted that Real Madrid were also interested in the past.

Hansi Flick is currently focusing on the Champions League as they gear up to host Chelsea next week. The German manager has been pressing for Alaba’s new deal since he has been the mainstay in the team. Alaba has excelled in central defence under Flick, allowing the team to play on the front foot.

Alaba appointed Pini Zahavi as his agent earlier this season, the same agent appointed by Robert Lewandowski when he was agitating for a move away from Bavaria in 2018. Zahavi couldn’t secure a move for Lewandowski as Die Roten remained firm on their stance of not selling their talisman. He eventually negotiated a bumper deal for Lewandowski in 2019 that secures Lewandowski’s long term future in Bavaria.

Die Roten must try to sort Alaba’s future once the Champions League concludes. The club should look to keep him at the club beyond this season, helping them to buy some time to convince him to stay. In case he doesn’t agree on a new deal, Die Roten will be in a better position to buy his replacement next summer.
