Bayern Munich reportedly wants to keep Oliver Batista Meier next season.

After a summer of upheaval in the squad at Bayern Munich last summer, there are going to be more departures this year as the club continues to bring down the average age of the squad. Along with deciding the future of some senior players, Die Roten also needs to focus on the development of young players such as Oliver Batista Meier.

According to Kicker, Die Roten has decided to keep Meier at the club next season instead of sending him out on loan. This report also insists that Hoffenheim has been showing interest in signing the young midfielder for next season.

Meier has largely been part of the reserves team this season. However, Hansi Flick has involved him in training sessions with the senior team and included him in the matchday squad on several occasions. He made his debut for the senior team against Fortuna Dusseldorf at Allianz Arena in the Bundesliga this season.

Meier will have to decide whether he wants to gain experience by training with the first team players or go on loan to get minutes at the top level. Considering that Hoffenheim is genuinely interested, it will be a big decision for the teenager in summer despite Die Roten’s stance.

More from Bayern Strikes

In Bavaria, Meier will get some playing time next season, but that will not be adequate for his development. He will have to play for the reserves team to keep his match rhythm at the optimum level. Moreover, the likes of Sarpreet Singh and Joshua Zirkzee are ahead of him in the pecking order for youth players in the first team.

Having said that, Flick has shown enough evidence during the past eight months that he is not scared to give young players opportunity in key moments of the season. It is encouraging to see the growth of Alphonso Davies and Zirkzee this season. Since Die Roten’s most successful teams have youth players in the first team, it is essential that they continue to give chances to young players.

There is a strong case for Meier to go on loan. Adrian Fein was not in the club’s immediate plans, so he worked out his way to the first team by two promising loan spells. His performances at Hamburg was rewarded with a new deal in Bavaria, and he is reportedly going to be part of the senior team next season.

Die Roten has made their stance clear with Meier. They are in a strong position since he currently has three years left on his contract. The onus is now on the teenager to make a decision regarding his immediate future. At this moment, a good loan move will benefit him rather than staying in Bavaria next season.
