Liverpool has been rumoured to be the club interested in signing Thiago this summer. SportBild insists that the English champions are yet to make an offer, but they want to pay around €20 million for the midfielder. However, Rekordmeister is looking somewhere in the region of €40 million for the Spanish international.
On Tuesday, Sport in Spain reported that Manchester United is also in the mix for Thiago. SportBild’s Christian Falk also hinted that there could be interest from Red Devils in the Spaniard. Die Roten is in no mood to see the midfielder running out his contract which expires next summer.
More from Bayern Strikes
The situation regarding Thiago comes across as a shock for Bavarian faithful since he was enjoying football under Hansi Flick. After struggling to be consistent in Hinrunde, Thiago came back strongly after the winter break and became a key player in the centre of the park. The Spaniard was playing in the number eight role, getting involved in the final third consistently.
During his absence after football resumed in May, Flick found a strong midfield partnership in Joshua Kimmich and Leon Goretzka. Despite this solid midfield pairing, Thiago still has a big role to play for Die Roten. He provides much more control in the midfield when Rekordmeister are facing high-quality teams.
Bayern may have to dip in the transfer market to find a replacement for Thiago. The German champions have been linked with a move for Tottenham Hotspurs’ Tanguy Ndombele. The reports have suggested that Die Roten may try to sign him on loan with an option to buy. He could be the like for like replacement for Thiago due to similarity in their qualities.

Thiago has been a terrific player for Rekordmeister and still has a few years to play at the top level. It is a shame that both parties couldn’t reach an agreement to extend his stay. Having said that, Die Roten are right to cash in considering the financial impact of the pandemic. It is a waiting game for now, but it is becoming clear that Thiago’s future is away from Germany.
