Thiago Alcantara may end up staying at Bayern Munich this summer.

Bayern Munich suffered a massive blow at the end of June when reports emerged in Germany that Thiago Alcantara wanted to leave the club in summer. Die Roten had reportedly offered him a new contract, but the Spaniard made a u-turn at the last moment.

Since these reports came out, Thiago has been heavily linked with a move to Liverpool in German media. However, the English reports have come up with contradictory claims. According to ESPN, Liverpool will not make a move for the former Barcelona midfielder this summer. The report also insists that Thiago doesn’t fit the profile for the Premier League champions due to his age and possible high wages.

Apart from Liverpool, Manchester City could be the only top English club that could be a destination for the Spain international. However, there have been no recent reports linking the former Premier League champions with Thiago. Chelsea and Manchester United have also not been mentioned anywhere in the conversation.

In Spain, Barcelona is struggling with finances, ruling out a return to Catalonia while Real Madrid may also opt against signing big players this summer. That leaves Juventus and Paris-Saint Germain as two other top clubs in Europe that may interest in Europe. The Italian club is well equipped in midfield after completing the signing of Arthur from Barcelona, while PSG is yet to be linked with Thiago.

More from Bayern Strikes

The Spaniard would like to experience a new adventure, but this is possibly the most difficult transfer window to get a move away from Bavaria. The German club would like to sell him this summer rather than lose him for nothing next year. However, all top clubs are facing financial problems due to pandemic.

Thiago is a vital part of Hansi Flick’s plans, so him staying will surely benefit the club on the pitch. The club may suffer financially if he runs down his deal, but the pros of him staying outweigh the cons. The Spaniard provides the edge in midfield that may help Die Roten to achieve their target of winning the Champions League.

The win against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in February highlighted the importance of Thiago in midfield. The Spanish midfielder was finally getting a chance to play in the number eight role rather than play in a deeper position.

Moreover, Thiago staying one more season will also buy Die Roten to change his mind. They managed to do it with Robert Lewandowski when he was agitating for a move away from the club in 2018. Considering all factors, Thiago will be much better served to extend his time in Bavaria rather than forcing a move this summer.
