Joshua Zirkzee- Emerging player from academy for Bayern Munich

Die Roten had numerous players from their youth academy during the treble-winning campaign in 2013. However, the German club has struggled to successfully integrate numerous promising young players in the first team over the past few seasons.

Flick’s short reign at the club till now has given fans a glimmer of hope regarding youth players getting playing time in the first team. The German manager’s biggest success story on this front has been Joshua Zirkzee. The Dutch forward has got fairly decent playing time in his first season with the senior team.

More from Bayern Strikes

Die Roten were struggling to find a breakthrough against Freiburg and Wolfsburg in December. Flick decided to be brave by sending Zirkzee on the pitch during these two games. The teenager didn’t disappoint and came up with match-winning goals on both occasions. Since then, Zirkzee has not looked back, becoming a regular member of the matchday squad.

Bayern has been heavily linked with backup strikes in the past couple of seasons. There were murmurs about signing a striker when Sandro Wagner left in January last year. It is unlikely that the club will sign one anytime soon since Zirkzee has sealed that place. He has become a reliable option in the absence of Lewandowski. He will learn a lot under Flick as he wants to become an important player for Die Roten in future.
