Thiago Alcantara could leave Bayern Munich in summer
Thiago Alcantara is reportedly looking for a move away from Bayern Munich.
Bayern Munich tried to get contract renewals out of the way during May ahead of another busy summer transfer window. They did enjoy success by extending deals for Manuel Neuer, Alphonso Davies, and Thomas Muller. However, the negotiations for renewals of Thiago Alcantara and David Alaba are yet to be completed.
Thiago’s renewal looked straightforward as reports in Germany suggested that the player will put pen to paper at the start of May. However, the murmurs coming out from Germany hint that the Spanish midfielder may be on his way out from the club.
According to SportBild, everything was agreed between two parties, but Thiago deliberated from signing the new deal. This report insists that the former Barcelona midfielder may consider this summer as the last opportunity to get the last big move of his career.
The Athletic’s Raphael Honigstein reported today that Die Roten is still hopeful about securing the future of the Spanish midfielder. Thiago’s current deal is set to expire at the end of next season. It will be a big blow for the team if he decides to leave Bavaria this summer.

The Spanish midfielder took some time to get accustomed to Hansi Flick’s methods at Bayern. He was in and out of the side during Flick’s first two months at the club. After the winter break, the Spaniard showed drastic improvement and became a mainstay in the starting XI, forming a stable partnership with Joshua Kimmich in the center of the park.
Since the restart in mid-May, Thiago has struggled with a couple of injuries. His absence has allowed Kimmich and Leon Goretzka to develop a strong understanding in midfield. Despite their solid partnership, Thiago has a vital role to play in the squad. His passing and dribbling in the center of the park allow Die Roten to dominate any team in Europe.
Thiago’s future at the club was in doubt at the end of the 2017/18 season as Barcelona and Real Madrid were heavily linked with him. However, he ended up staying at the club and played a crucial role in winning domestic trophies in the last two years.
Considering the market will be difficult this summer, sanctioning Thiago’s departure may be difficult despite its contract situation. Die Roten should allow him to see out the contract even if he decides against signing a new deal. His contribution in next season will be crucial considering the squad rebuild is nearing completion.
