Midfielders continue to be consistent
MID, Joshua Kimmich — 8.5/10
Kimmich has started adding goals to his game. The German midfielder has an array of strikes in his arsenal, which was visibly shown in two attempts during the first half. His first strike had power, but it was straight at the goalkeeper. Just a minute later, he went for precision by passing the ball into the net to open the scoring for Die Roten. His passing helps in dominating the tempo of the game, but contributing to goals from the midfield sets him apart from other central midfielders in Europe.

MID, Leon Goretzka — 7/10
Leon Goretzka didn’t have a fixed position in midfield against Freiburg. The German international swapped roles with Kimmich throughout the game. Goretzka kept it simple whenever he was dropping to facilitate the build-up play. While going forward, Goretzka was always a threat with the late runs in the box. The German midfielder was also a threat from set-pieces throughout the game. Goretzka couldn’t find himself on the scoresheet, but he continues to cement his place in Flick’s preferred starting XI. It is going to be difficult for Thiago to regain his spot in the team when he returns from injury.
MID, Mickael Cuisance — 7/10
It was a much better performance from Mickael Cuisance compared to the one against Borussia Monchengladbach. The Frenchman linked midfield and attack with his crisp passing, moving the ball faster to increase the tempo of the game. His finishing still looks wayward, but with more playing time, he will get better.
