Bayern Munich should not entertain offers for star defenders in summer.

The summer transfer window is yet to be rescheduled since all top leagues have or going to resume football. However, the delay in the start of the window doesn’t stop the rumour mill. Bayern Munich is expected to improve their squad this summer, but few of the players of the current squad is also expected to attract interest from top clubs.

According to RMC, Paris-Saint Germain is interested in signing Lucas Hernandez from Bayern to replace Thiago Silva. This report says that the French defender has not adapted well in Germany and be receptive to a move to Paris. However, negotiations with Die Roten are likely to be complicated since Hernandez joined the club for record fee last summer. SportBild also confirmed that the French club is indeed interested in Hernandez.

Hernandez moved from Atletico Madrid to Bavaria last summer since the club was looking to improve their central defensive options. It has been a frustrating debut campaign for Hernandez as he has struggled with injuries and currently finds himself on the bench due to impressive performances of other defenders during his absence.

It will be a kneejerk reaction from the player and Die Roten to part ways at the end of the season. Hernandez has the quality to be the best in the world. It is just a matter of time to get some rhythm with consistent playing time to get back to his best. Moreover, the German club will struggle to recoup the fee they had paid for the services of the French defender.

More from Bayern Strikes

Hernandez will come back strongly from this setback and break into the starting XI next season. The Frenchman has previously excelled as a defender under Diego Simeone in multiple positions. He just needs to remain patient for his chances as it will eventually arrive. The margin for error is very less right now, so Hansi Flick has stuck with a stable partnership that has reaped the rewards in the past seven months.

Apart from Hernandez, PSG is also interested in David Alaba. According to Sky Sports, the French club is showing concrete interest in Alaba ahead of the summer transfer window. The 27-year-old defender is set to enter the final year of his contract at Bayern. The German club is eager to secure his future, but negotiations have been tough as Alaba has also appointed Pini Zahavi as his new agent.

Even though the contract situation of Alaba is not favourable, it doesn’t make sense parting ways with him in summer. He is important to club’s plans going ahead and still has few years of his prime ahead of him. The Austrian defender also has a big role to play in the dressing room due to his association with the club for such a long time.

Bayern stood firm when Robert Lewandowski was agitating for a move away from the club. Eventually, they convinced him to sign a new deal by showing that the club is moving in the right direction. Moreover, allowing top players from the squad to join a European giant may come back to haunt them as it did in the case of Toni Kroos. Die Roten should resist all offers from PSG in summer for Alaba or Hernandez as both players are crucial to the club’s long term plans.
