Bayern Munich hierarchy continues to heap praise on Leroy Sane.

Things are going smoothly for Bayern Munich on the pitch. Barring an extraordinary dip in performances, they look certain to retain the Bundesliga title. Away from the pitch, Die Roten looks to improve the team with Leroy Sane emerging as the primary transfer target.

The German winger came close to joining Rekordmeister last summer, but a serious injury in August scuppered the move. However, the recent reports in Germany suggest that Die Roten are getting confident about striking a deal for Sane in summer.

Sane is also reportedly doing everything possible to make this transfer happen. He has reportedly agreed on a basic outline of a five-year deal. Since he is about to enter the final year of the contract at Man City, the English club will likely sanction a move.

Last summer, Niko Kovac had to apologise after he publicly expressed confidence about signing Sane. Since then, Die Roten has been cautious about making comments about Sane. Herbert Hainer, Bayern President, did heap praise on him recently. Speaking to BR (via Goal), Hainer insisted that every team would like to have a player like Sane.

"“Leroy Sane is a good player that every team would like to have.”“It has been known for a year now that we have been interested. He is still under contract with Man City. We have to see how things develop.”"

More from Bayern Strikes

Hainer also insisted that Sane is not only a good player but also has great marketing potential. Uli Hoeness, former club president, also hinted last weekend that he could see Sane moving to Bavaria in the upcoming summer transfer window.

Sane will be an incredible signing for Die Roten as they will get much-needed quality on the flanks. Serge Gnabry has further improved this year, but healthy competition will help him to get better. This principle also applies to Kingsley Coman, who needs to start delivering top performance or else risk losing place in the starting XI.

Die Roten has been smart about not extensively talking about transfer targets. After last summer’s embarrassment, it doesn’t make sense to talk about players from other clubs. In fact, it is always disrespectful to talk about players from other clubs unless a bid has been accepted.

Right now, it feels like a matter of when rather than if regarding the signing of Sane. The charm offensive from Hainer does hint that the club is confident about completing the deal. However, it is good to see that the German club is not being open to media about transfers and talking about players from other clubs.
