Thiago Alcantara

Joshua Kimmich has been consistent throughout Hinrunde, but he was not playing with one partner in midfield consistently. Flick finally decided to stick with Thiago Alcantara and Kimmich in Ruckrunde, allowing them to form a solid partnership.

Kimmich maintained consistency in the number six role while Thiago picked up form after a disappointing first half of the season. Flick deployed the Spanish midfielder as a number eight in his system, which is his best position by a mile.

More from Bayern Strikes

The clarity in the role allowed Thiago to flourish. He was linking up the midfield and attack through his precise passing and mazy dribbles. Since he was no longer playing in a deeper role, the Spaniard also went ahead to join the attack and become a goal-scoring option. He has scored three goals in 2020 across 11 games in all competitions.

Thiago made Die Roten tick in midfield, becoming one of the first names on the teamsheet for Flick. His performance at Stamford Bridge is one of the best midfield performances for Bayern this season. The Spaniard is reportedly close to signing a new deal. With clarity over his future and role in the team, Thiago will surely get the ball rolling straight away against Union Berlin on Sunday.
