Bayern Munich: A new club joins the race for David Alaba
Bayern Munich defender David Alaba is reportedly attracting interest from another top club in Europe.
In the past month, Bayern Munich has focussed on sorting out the future of star players. The club took the opportunity during this break to start contract talks with players who only have one year left on their current contract. Thomas Muller had already signed a new deal while the club remains in talks with David Alaba, Thiago Alcantara, and Manuel Neuer.
The future of Thiago looks to be sorted as SportBild reported this week that the Spaniard has agreed to terms of a new deal. The negotiations with Alaba and Neuer will be tricky as there is a lot of speculation surrounding both players, and they have reportedly rejected the first contract offer from Die Roten.
Alaba is attracting interest from top clubs across Europe. According to Sport1, Inter Milan is the latest club to register interest in the Austrian full-back. Antonio Conte is a big fan of Alaba, and he will be open to signing him if he is available during the summer transfer window.
This report also insists that Hansi Flick is desperate for Alaba to pen a new contract. The Austrian defender played an important role in Flick’s team this season. Since Flick has been given a new two year deal in Bavaria, it is paramount for his plans that the club extends Alaba’s stay at the club.

Barcelona and Real Madrid have been heavily linked with Alaba in the past couple of years. Die Roten had reportedly tried to include Alaba in a swap deal for Leroy Sane. The Austrian international was an important player for Pep Guardiola, Manchester City manager, during his time in Bavaria.
Alaba himself has been vocal about his uncertain future. He has kept all options open whenever he touches on this issue. The 28-year-old defender has also hired Pini Zahavi as his new agent. Die Roten faces a big task of convincing him to stay, but current circumstances may work in their favour.
No top European club is going to fork out a big fee this summer, and by the time the next summer transfer window arrives, Alaba will be 29. His huge wages may scupper a deal for big clubs as they look to manage their books in a post-pandemic situation.
From a sporting perspective, Die Roten should be doing everything possible to keep Alaba for a long time at the club. He is a world-class versatile defender. His future should be in central defense as his attributes improve the dominating style of football Rekordmeister wants to play.
All top clubs will be interested in signing Alaba if he is available this summer, but few will be able to afford him at the moment. Die Roten is not going to be bullied into selling their star player for cheap, so it will not be a big surprise that the Austrian pens a new deal at the end of the season.
