Bayern Munich: Three challenges ahead of Bundesliga resumption
Fatigue management
There are nine gameweeks left in the Bundesliga. DFL has decided to wrap up the season by playing midweek games over a four-week period, which means there will be a game every three days. Die Roten will have to manage the fatigue of players to avoid serious injuries.
Moreover, these players have not played a game for more than two months, increasing the risk of injuries. Flick will have to use every player during this period, providing an ample amount of recovery period to players during the tight schedule.
Ivan Perisic and Robert Lewandowski have completely recovered from their respective injuries. Niklas Sule has also started training on the pitch, but he is unlikely to be ready for the next weekend. The club has suffered injury setbacks during the lockdown, as Corentin Tolisso and Philippe Coutinho suffered serious injuries. The Frenchman will not play again this season, while Coutinho could feature in the last few games.
Considering the recent update on injuries, Flick will have a fairly decent squad available for next weekend’s game. The German manager has been able to deliver top performances by sticking to a fixed starting XI, but he cannot afford to do that in the next few weeks. Proper fatigue management should be a top priority for Die Roten to make sure players don’t suffer serious injuries.
