Bayern Munich defender Niklas Sule reveals the progress of his recovery from a serious knee injury.

It has been yet another season where Bayern Munich has seen their key players suffering big injuries. The defensive department has been the casualty this campaign as Niklas Sule and Lucas Hernandez spent a long time in the physio room this season.

Sule suffered a knee injury against Augsburg in October. The German defender was initially ruled out for the season, but he was determined to be back for the last few games of the campaign. Sule was also desperate to be fit for the European Championship in summer.

The scenario is completely different in global football at the moment due to the coronavirus pandemic. Sule no longer needs to worry about Euros as the competition has been postponed to next year. Moreover, there are lingering doubts about the completion of the current season.

The ongoing break in football has helped Sule to continue his recovery from injury. Speaking to Kicker, Sule admitted that he is ready to start training on the pitch. The German international admitted that he will need a few more weeks to achieve complete fitness.

"“I think I can attack again soon.”“I will definitely need another three or four weeks to get used to the pace and the workload and to get back to where I see myself.”"

More from Bayern Strikes

Sule will be able to play for Die Roten when football resumes in the Bundesliga. The German government has banned mass gatherings until the end of August, so games are most likely to be played behind closed doors. DFL reportedly wants to resume football in May if the situation in the country permits.

The German defender will have to be eased back into action if football returns next month. Sule has suffered a similar injury at Hoffenheim, so it is necessary that Die Roten doesn’t take any unnecessary risks and manage his playing time. The club had perfectly managed Corentin Tolisso‘s return from a similar injury last season.

Sule had become an even more integral part of the squad after the departure of Mats Hummels to Borussia Dortmund in summer. The German defender is eager to become a leader in the squad since Die Roten are building a young team to challenge for all trophies in the present and future.

Apart from Sule, Ivan Perisic is another player who is on track to make a return when competitive football resumes. The Croatian winger was out of action since the start of February due to a serious ankle injury. Perisic was expected to be back in April, so he should be ready to play straight away when Bundesliga returns.
