Allow Neuer to run down his contract

In this contract tussle with Neuer, Bayern have another option to explore. It is highly unlikely that Neuer agitates for a move away from Bavaria in the summer transfer window. Moreover, all top European clubs have no vacancy for a top goalkeeper.

Die Roten can afford to delay talks regarding a new contract. Neuer is not a player who is likely to sulk if things are not sorted before the start of the next season. He will continue to deliver top performances even if he is entering the last year of his contract.

More from Bayern Strikes

From a sporting perspective, allowing Neuer to run down his contract may help Die Roten. The German goalkeeper will be 35 by the end of next season. Under Neuer’s guidance, Alexander Nubel will gain vital experience and learn from the best by just training with him. This will prepare Nubel to become the first-choice goalkeeper at Bayern.

Neuer may look to explore options in Europe for a final payday if Die Roten doesn’t offer him a new deal. Since there is no opening at another top club, he may eventually agree to a new shorter deal. Bayern will have quality depth in the goalkeeping department if their move of allowing Neuer to run down the deal works in their favour. Moreover, they will also continue their approach of handing short term deals to older players.
