Santiago Arias

On the other side of Madrid, there is also another right-back that Die Roten can pursue. Atletico Madrid’s Santiago Arias has been considered one of the top right-backs in Europe before he sealed a move to the Spanish capital from PSV Eindhoven in 2018.

Arias featured heavily for Diego Simeone in his debut season, making 25 appearances in La Liga. However, he has fallen out of favour at the Spanish club this year after the arrival of Kieran Trippier from Tottenham Hotspurs last summer.

More from Bayern Strikes

The Colombian international is an orthodox full-back, tough tackling and strong defender that wins the majority of the duels. His solid defensive game allowed him to be in Simeone’s plans during his debut campaign. Going forward, Arias needs to improve his game as he roughly averages one key pass per game in La Liga this season. (Stats courtesy: Whoscored)

Arias currently has three years left on his contract, so Atletico will be in a good position to demand a good fee for him. The 26-year-old full-back is entering in the prime years of his career, so he can surely provide an ample amount of quality on the right flank for Die Roten. If Bayern is able to acquire him for a reasonable fee, then Arias can turn out to be a smart signing.
