Karl-Heinz Rummenigge believes that Bayern Munich will eventually reach an agreement with Manuel Neuer regarding a new deal.
Bayern Munich have used the time away from football to continue their squad planning for the next few seasons. Alphonso Davies was the latest player on Monday to sign a long term deal with Die Roten. Thomas Muller and Hansi Flick also got their contract sorted when the team reported for training a fortnight ago.
Thiago Alcantara is reportedly next in line to get a new deal as he is set to enter the final year of the current deal. David Alaba and Manuel Neuer are other star players that also have only one year left on their contract.
Neuer has been reportedly unhappy with Rekordmeister’s first offer. However, Neuer’s agent denied the claims suggesting that the player wants a long deal, and also denied the numbers being floated in the media regarding a new contract.
Bayern has always been consistent with their stance that they want to keep Neuer beyond 2021. Speaking to SportBild, Karl-Heinz Rummenigge sounded confident about finding a breakthrough in the negotiations with Neuer’s representatives for a new deal.
"“I am convinced that with a player like Manuel Neuer we will find a mutually happy solution at the end of the day.”“Manuel has been playing football in Munich for almost nine years. We have the world’s best goalkeeper in the gate. We won everything (with him). I think we know what the two have in common.”"

These statements surely suggest that an agreement could be just around the corner. Dietmar Hamann recently insisted that Die Roten should not commit a long term deal for Neuer. If the Bundesliga club manages to extend the current deal by two years, then the goalkeeping department of the squad will be sorted for years.
Neuer is still one of the best goalkeepers in the world. Alexander Nubel is a very good understudy for Neuer. The 22-year-old goalkeeper will also learn a lot from Neuer in training, preparing him to eventually become the number one for Rekordmeister after a couple of seasons.
It will be interesting to see how Hansi Flick manages playing time of Neuer and Nubel next season. Nubel should ideally get a chance to start in DFB Pokal games and group stages of the Champions League. This will give him a considerable amount of playing time to continue his development.
Meanwhile, Bundesliga is likely to resume on May 9 after positive developments on Monday. The German clubs have been training for the past two weeks, allowing them to build proper fitness by the time competitive football resumes. Die Roten will kickstart the campaign with a four-point lead at the top of the league table.
