Top four full-backs to play for Bayern Munich
David Alaba
After Lahm, Die Roten got another top full-back from the academy in the form of David Alaba. The Austrian defender broke into the team at the age of 18. Alaba went on loan to Hoffenheim in 2011. After that loan spell, Alaba has not looked back and has firmly established himself as one of the best left-backs in Europe.
The Austrian full-back is a top defender. His clever positional awareness helps him to be one step ahead of the winger. In a situation when he has a defensive lapse, his pace allows him to make recovery tackles.
Alaba also has a good knack of contributing with goals. His free kicks are a thing of beauty as there is a fine balance of power and precision. On the ball, he shows great composure, helping Bayern to playout from the back. In the final third, he consistently finds forwards with pinpoint crosses.
The Austrian international has also flourished as a center-back for Die Roten. He has been a key player for Die Roten in that position this season as the club went through an injury crisis in central defense. Alaba will turn 29 next season, so he can easily go down as the best full-back and one of the best foreign players to play for Bayern.
