Jupp Heynckes is pleased with Bayern Munich’s decision to appoint Hansi Flick as their new permanent manager.

Amidst the coronavirus pandemic, Bayern Munich took a massive decision last week regarding the future of the club. The defending Bundesliga champions decided to reward Hansi Flick for his work by appointing him the permanent first-team manager.

It looked like a matter of when rather than if regarding Flick’s appointment as the team has been in good form under the German manager. They had reclaimed the top spot in the Bundesliga by remaining unbeaten in the Bundesliga since the winter break got over in mid-January.

The biggest test for Flick was reportedly games in Europe and how he tactically sets up the team against big European clubs. He passed the first hurdle with flying colours as Die Roten went to Stamford Bridge in February, and clinched an emphatic 3-0 win over Chelsea in the first leg of the round of 16 stage of the Champions League.

Flick has been garnering praise from German media and former Bayern players since taking over the role in November. Speaking to DPA (via Sport1), Jupp Heynckes gave his seal of approval for Flick to become the permanent coach of Rekordmeister. Heynckes believes that Flick has all the right qualities to succeed in Bavaria.

"“It is a wise decision on the part of the FCB to sign Hansi Flick as head coach.”“He is the ideal coach for me because he has already had a lot of experience in various positions in football in the past. His qualities are professional competence, leadership in all areas, seriousness, solidity, and an excellent public presentation.”"

More from Bayern Strikes

Bayern had been linked with numerous coaches since Niko Kovac left the club at the start of November. Erik Ten Hag, Ajax manager, was one of the front runners for this position while former Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino was also heavily linked with a move to Bavaria in summer.

Despite the availability of many top managers in January, Die Roten decided to stick with Flick. The German manager brought the club’s faltering season back on track in no time. They started climbing positions in the table, and most importantly, played some of the best football in the past three seasons.

Flick has ticked all the boxes as an interim manager, but things will completely change as soon as the competitive football resumes. The German manager will have to consistently satisfy a few demands as a Bayern manager. It will be interesting to see how he fares after setting a high standard during his interim tenure.

Meanwhile, Die Roten have resumed first-team training today. The German club is set to follow all the guidelines issued by the German government during the training. Bundesliga may resume next month if the situation improves as DFL had previously suspended games till April 30.
