Bayern Munich ready to trigger release clause of young midfielder
Bayern Munich is reportedly looking to add Nicolas Melamed from Espanyol to their squad in the summer transfer window.
Bayern Munich are known for going under the radar and signing some hidden gems in the transfer window. The German club has been able to discover some bargains in the transfer market, such as Juan Bernat and Joshua Kimmich.
Die Roten may pull another rabbit out of the hat this summer as they eye a teenage midfielder from La Liga. According to Sky Italy’s Gianluca Di Marzio, Bayern Munich is ready to activate the release clause of Espanyol’s Nicolas Melamed. Apart from Rekordmeister, Chelsea, Barcelona, and Real Madrid are also interested in the Spanish midfielder.
Melamed came through Espanyol’s academy and made his debut for the senior team in the Europa League this season. The 18-year-old midfielder primarily operates as an attacking midfielder. He managed to score seven goals for Espanyol’s youth team in 27 third division games. (Stats courtesy: Transfermarkt)
The Spaniard is likely to play for reserves in Bavaria if the transfer goes through in summer. Die Roten has improved the recruitment of reserves team in the past couple of transfer windows. The additions of Sarpreet Singh and Leon Dajaku last summer improved the reserves team.

Since transfer fees are getting worse every passing year, there is special attention to the recruitment of young players. Die Roten has a rich history of integrating young players from the academy in the past. However, the last few seasons have seen very fewer players from youth setup getting chances in the first team.
Rekordmeister are doing the right thing by recruiting some of the best young players across the globe. The next step is to draw a plan for these players, which makes sure that they have a clear path ready for the first team. A good loan system can also help in aiding the development of players.
Alphonso Davies and Adrian Fein are prime examples of the benefit of having such a recruitment plan. Die Roten moved quickly to sign Davies in 2019. His slow integration was frustrating, but he eventually became a vital part of the first team and now, one of the most lethal full-backs in Europe.
Meanwhile, Fein took a different approach to get a chance in the first team. He has been enjoying a productive loan spell at Hamburg this season, which has eventually led to a new contract at Bayern. The German midfielder is reportedly going to be part of first-team next season. Melamed will have to go through one of these two routes to play for Die Roten if he joins in summer.
