Bayern Munich star is reportedly subject to interest from Chelsea in the summer transfer window.
The last few days have not been good for Bayern Munich in terms of squad planning for the next season. David Alaba has been already linked with a move away from the club. The Austrian full-back was reportedly involved in an idea of a swap deal with Manchester City. Now, another senior player at Bayern has been linked with a move to England.
According to SportBild’s Christian Falk, Chelsea is interested in signing Manuel Neuer in the summer transfer window. The London based club wants to sign Neuer if they manage to find a suitor for Kepa Arrizabalaga.
Earlier this week, Bild (via GGFN) reported that transfer negotiations between Die Roten and Neuer are not going as the club would have wanted. The 34-year-old shot-stopper wants a much longer deal than what Rekordmeister is offering at the moment. Neuer’s current deal is set to expire at the end of next season.
The speculation surrounding Neuer began last summer when his agent publicly questioned Die Roten’s ambitions. Neuer dismissed suggestions about a transfer away from the club and insisted that he is hungry to achieve more success with the club and country.

Neuer had a solid first half of the season. The German reports hinted towards a contract extension, but the January transfer window brought another twist. Die Roten announced the arrival of Alexander Nubel from Schalke. The young German goalkeeper is set to arrive in Bavaria after his contract expires with Schalke in summer.
Nubel’s signing raised eyebrows in Germany as his agent confirmed that Bayern has come up with a favourable plan for the young goalkeeper. Rekordmeister is likely to divide playing time between Neuer and Nubel next season, which is likely to upset the former as he wants to play every game. Amidst the news of Nubel’s arrival, Neuer was linked with a move to Juventus.
Rekordmeister cannot afford to lose two top performers in Alaba and Neuer this summer. The first team squad is in transition now, so they need few senior players in the dressing room to support the young players on and off the pitch.
Die Roten should try to negotiate a new deal with Neuer, but shouldn’t commit to a long deal as the club captain turned 34 today. Even if they fail to agree a new deal with him, they should see out the current contract. By the end of the 2020/21 season, Nubel is likely to be ready to become the first-choice goalkeeper.
