Bayern Munich forward Philippe Coutinho has been linked with a move back to Premier League.

Last summer transfer window has been a hit and miss for Bayern Munich. Benjamin Pavard has been a success till now while Lucas Hernandez has struggled with injuries. Mickael Cuisance is a player for the future, while loan deals of Philippe Coutinho and Ivan Perisic have been disappointing.

Coutinho arrived in Bavaria with so much expectation despite having struggled for form at Barcelona in the last 18 months. The Brazilian has shown glimpses of his talent, but there has been no consistency in his performances.

According to Sky Sports, there is zero chance that Die Roten will take up the option to permanently sign Coutinho from Barcelona. This report insists that there is a strong interest in the Brazilian midfielder from Premier League.

Daily Mirror in England has insisted that Barcelona is set to offer Coutinho to Chelsea in the summer transfer window. The English media outlet also reveals that the London based club is only interested in signing the Brazilian on a one-year loan deal.

More from Bayern Strikes

The Brazilian was confident that he will improve as the season progresses. He got an extended run in the first team under Niko Kovac in October. His performances during this spell were impressive, but his form dipped after Kovac’s departure. Coutinho lost his place in the starting XI under Hansi Flick. Thomas Muller‘s return to form also reduced his chances to get back in the team.

The indefinite suspension of football has poured water on any little chance Coutinho had about having a long term future in Bavaria. Signing Coutinho for a fee excess of €100 million doesn’t make sense for Die Roten. He is set to turn 28 next season and there are much better players available in the market at that price.

Bayern have endured terrible luck with loan signings in the past three seasons. James Rodriguez showed promise in the debut season but struggled to replicate in the second year of his loan spell. Perisic has been underwhelming, while Alvaro Odriozola has not got enough opportunities since joining in January to showcase his talent.

Coutinho still has time on his side to rediscover the lost touch. Unfortunately, he is unlikely to get that time in Bavaria. The hattrick against Werder Bremen will be the most memorable game for Coutinho in Bayern shirt unless the season resumes and Die Roten get a chance to compete for all trophies.
