Kingsley Coman is reportedly negotiating terms of a new contract with Bayern Munich.

Bayern Munich wants to become a powerhouse in Europe. The German club is looking to rejuvenate their attacking options in summer to have more quality and a cutting edge in the final third. Apart from transfers, the club is also looking to secure long-term futures of the forwards that are present in the squad.

According to Foot Mercato, Die Roten has started negotiations with Kingsley Coman regarding a new contract. The French media outlet insists that the club hierarchy has a lot of faith in Coman despite his injury struggles over the last few campaigns.

This report further highlights the high expectations Rekordmeister have with Coman. His current deal is set to expire in 2023, so Die Roten may extend that contract by two years and increase his wages. The French winger has been inconsistent this season, struggling with the end product. He has managed to score two goals and register two assists in the Bundesliga.

Coman is set to turn 24 next season. He is entering the defining phase of his career. Bayern’s continued faith shown him is good for his confidence, but it is the right time for him to start attaining a good consistency in his performances. The Frenchman should try to shed the tag of frustrating young winger.

More from Bayern Strikes

From Bayern’s perspective, the new contract is a puzzling move. Coman still has more than two years left on the old contract. His performances at the moment don’t merit a new deal, so this move from Die Roten may set a wrong precedent.

Meanwhile, the current speculation surrounding David Alaba may have forced Die Roten to alter their approach towards contract negotiations. They find themselves in a vulnerable situation with Alaba as there is only one year left on his contract. By securing Coman’s long-term future, Rekordmeister is probably trying to avoid another Alaba situation in the future.

Foot Mercato also provided a positive update on Rekordmeister’s pursuit of Leroy Sane. The French outlet insists that the defending Bundesliga champions are currently negotiating with Sane. If Die Roten agree personal terms with Sane, then they can start negotiations with Manchester City as soon as the current football hiatus is over.

Coman still has a major role to play for Rekordmeister, but the arrival of new winger will force him to raise his game. His performances in the last two years don’t warrant a new contract. Hopefully, the persistent efforts put by the club eventually help Coman in fulfilling his potential.
