Bayern Munich defender David Alaba is reportedly in doubt about his future at the club.

The summer transfer window is pivotal for Bayern Munich as they continue rebuilding job. Die Roten are expected to part ways with few senior players and replace them with young players, building a squad that can help them in competing for trophies in the present and future.

Rekordmeister will also find themselves in a tricky position due to the contract length of some of the stars in the team. David Alaba is one of the few players that will enter the final year of their contract next season.

The latest murmurs from Germany are not positive about Alaba’s future in Bavaria. According to SportBild (Bulinews),  Alaba is not sure about his future at Bayern. The Austrian defender is contemplating about joining another top European club in summer.

Real Madrid have been previously interested in Alaba. He was also linked with Barcelona last summer. Alaba has previously insisted that he will be open to new challenges, so a move away from Die Roten could become a possibility this summer.

More from Bayern Strikes

Alaba has been a key performer for Die Roten in the last ten seasons. The Austrian established himself as one of the best left-backs in the world. This season he has played a completely different role, but still managed to deliver top performances every week. Hansi Flick has trusted him to play in central defense due to injuries.

Bayern have left themselves in a sticky situation by not extending Alaba’s contract. If the player decides to leave the club in summer, then the German club will not be able to demand a big fee. Moreover, Alaba can also leave on free if he decides to run down his contract.

Apart from a financial perspective, Die Roten will lose a very important player. Alaba is one of the senior players that has an important role to play during this transitional phase. His playing quality and leadership are crucial for the team.

Alphonso Davies has been exceptional in the left-back position, but he is bound to go through a rough patch. During his poor run of form, Alaba will be needed to guide him and decrease the pressure on his shoulder. Moreover, both can play together as Alaba is a solid center-back and his long term future should be in that position. Allowing him to join a European rival may turn out to be disastrous as it did in Toni Kroos‘ case.
