Joshua Zirkzee to continue his dream run

Flick had a selection headache against Hoffenheim due to Lewandowski’s injuries. The German manager has many tactical tweaks to his disposal, but he decided to go with Joshua Zirkzee as his number nine in this game.

Zirkzee perfectly responded to this call-up as he looked sharp from the word go. The Dutch forward continued with his habit of scoring goals in every appearance for Die Roten. This time it was not a winner, but the goal made sure that Hoffenheim had no chance of returning to the game.

The 19-year-old forward has been a revelation for Rekordmeister this season. After impressing in the reserves team, Zirkzee got his chance with the first team in December. He made an instant impact and became a hero for the Bavarians after effectively scoring the winners against Freiburg and Wolfsburg in December.

Dutch legends are heaping praise on Zirkzee and backing him to be a success for club and country. There is no point in getting carried away and putting more pressure on the teenager, but the early signs are promising. Flick decided to rest Zirkzee against Schalke, so he looks likely to get a nod in the starting XI on Sunday. The Dutch forward has made every opportunity count, so it will be interesting to see whether he continues his dream run against Augsburg.
