Four Takeaways as Bayern Munich seal victory against FC Koln
Attacking firepower
It’s becoming very clear which attackers manager Hansi Flick wants in his preferred starting lineup. Those would be Serge Gnabry and Kingsley Coman on the wings, Thomas Muller in a central attacking midfield role, and Robert Lewandowski leading the line.
At the beginning of the season, many wondered how newcomers Philippe Coutinho and Ivan Perisic would fit in this formation, but with the way these four have been playing this isn’t even a debate anymore. Luckily for Bayern, these four are peaking at the right time of the season.
All four of these players made impacts on the score sheet with Gnabry getting two goals and Muller getting two assists. At this point, it is surprising when Lewandowski doesn’t score. Even Kingsley Coman, despite his recent injury and lack of an end product, managed to get a goal in the match.

Along with these four players, Bayern still has depth with Coutinho and youngster Joshua Zirkzee who are both capable of coming in off the bench to make major impacts in the match. Moreover, even the midfielders have been scoring this calendar year with both Leon Goretzka and Thiago Alcantara getting on the scorer’s column.
The reason I bring this up, especially with this week’s performance, because this is huge for Bayern and their ambitions for the season. At the beginning of the season, it was a debate if anyone other than Lewandowski was going to be able to score.
Now, under Hansi Flick, that tune has changed, and several players have been able to score goals, which is dangerous against any opponent. It is also great to see Flick nail down a preferred starting eleven ahead of next week’s game against Chelsea. As of right now, this offense is firing all cylinders and that is very exciting.
