Bayern Munich is reportedly eager to sign Sergino Dest from Ajax in the summer transfer window.

Bayern Munich will start planning for the summer transfer window from now. The Bundesliga club made single addition in January by signing Alvaro Odriozola from Real Madrid on a six-month loan deal. There is no option to buy the Spanish full-back permanently at the end of the season.

It looks like Odriozola is not going to be Die Roten’s long term right-back option unless he lights up the pitch in the next three months. The latest reports from the Dutch media suggest that Odriozola was not the prime right-back target for Bayern.

According to De Telegraaf, Bayern Munich had a bid rejected for Ajax defender Sergino Dest in January. This report insists that Rekordmeister is hoping to conclude this transfer in summer. Ajax director Marc Overmars wanted €30 million for Dest in January when Die Roten offered €20 million.

In Germany, Bild also confirmed Bayern’s interest in Dest.  TZ’s Manuel Bonke insists that Dest was at Allianz Arena to watch the game between Die Roten and Hoffenheim. These strong murmurs in Netherlands and Germany surely suggest that there is some substance in this rumour.

More from Bayern Strikes

Dest’s current contract with Ajax expires in 2022. Due to this contractual length, Ajax may look to cash in the summer. Since the gap between the two parties is not huge, there is a good chance that Bayern can conclude this deal at the start of the summer window.

The 19-year-old full-back has been in good form for Ajax this season. Dest has registered five assists in Eredivisie, showing that he has a great eye for finding his teammates in the final third. A move to Bundesliga will be a step up for the teenager, but he surely has the talent to succeed at the top level.

Bayern Munich will have to be patient with Dest. Considering the long term plan is to play Joshua Kimmich in central midfield, the club will have to rely heavily on Benjamin Pavard in the right-back department. Dest will need time and experience to establish himself as a regular member of the starting XI.

Die Roten is likely to be in the market for a central defender as Jerome Boateng is expected to leave the club in summer. A new center-back will allow Pavard to play regularly on the right side of the back four, giving Dest time to adapt to the Bundesliga. Bayern will be spending big money on a winger, so signing players such as Dest will be a smart move to save money for big transfers.
