Former Bayern Munich midfielder Michael Ballack urges Kai Havertz to reject a move to the Bundesliga Champions in summer.

Bayern Munich spent a lot of money last summer to revamp their squad. The German club is expected to continue this spending this summer as they start replacing veteran players with some of the best young talents in Europe.

Die Roten is likely to focus on adding quality in the attacking department in summer after improving their defense last time around. They will surely break their transfer record to sign at least one quality attacking player.

Kai Havertz is one of the few attacking players that have been heavily linked with a move to Bavaria for some time now. The German international is subject to interest from numerous top clubs across Europe.

However, Havertz has been advised to stay at Bayer Leverkusen for one more season. Speaking to Sport1 (via Sky Sports), Michael Ballack insisted that Havertz is not yet ready to take a big leap and join Bayern Munich. He admits that the young German midfielder needs time to be mentally ready for a big transfer.

"“Havertz is an exceptional player, but one thing is also clear… Havertz still needs time.”“He also needs the robustness to be mentally prepared for Bayern. I also needed my time in Leverkusen back then. He must now look closely at his development. We do not need to talk about his footballing qualities because he is a top player.”"

More from Bayern Strikes

Havertz confirmed last summer that he decided against leaving Bayer Leverkusen. The German star enjoyed a prolific season for Leverkusen last season. His performances for the club made sure that he was picked regularly by Joachim Low for Germany.

After enjoying a career-high in 2018/19, it has been a miserable season for Havertz this year. The German attacking midfielder has struggled to score goals and create chances consistently. He is currently finding the form after stitching a decent run of good performances for Leverkusen in Ruckrunde.

Ballack has surely made a fair point that Havertz needs to be patient after going through a rough patch of form this season. A big move will put more pressure on him and could further hurt his performances. It will be a wise move from him if he devotes one more campaign to Leverkusen.

Meanwhile, Bayern also needs an immediate impact from their new arrival in summer. Havertz may take some time to adapt, so Die Roten needs to be cautious about this transfer. One more season at Leverkusen would benefit all parties, if Havertz is eager to join Bayern in the future. The Bundesliga champions can pay the big fee for someone like Leroy Sane this summer.
