Joshua Kimmich opens up about his long term plans at Bayern Munich after finally establishing himself in central midfield.

Bayern Munich is finally getting their season on track as they are closing on the top position in the Bundesliga. They are also in a good position in the two cup competitions. However, it has been a bumpy road for the defending Bundesliga champions.

Despite having a mixed season until now, there were some consistent performers for Bayern. Joshua Kimmich is one of the few Bayern players that have been consistently good throughout this campaign.

The German midfielder has firmly established himself as a central midfielder in the Bayern squad. Despite his brilliant productivity in the right-back role, Kimmich is loving his new role and sees his long-term future in central midfield.

After finally settling down in midfield, Kimmich is now focussing on achieving big team goals with Bayern Munich. In an interview with Kicker, the German international admitted that he wants to shape his legacy at Bayern and win the Champions League trophy with the club.

"“My goal is to shape an era with Bayern Munich – with the very big goal of winning the Champions League”.“I clearly had the feeling and the conviction that it was the right time to extend the contract because we have the chance to shape an era with a new generation – and that with a club that is internationally recognized among the top five or six clubs in Europe.”"

More from Bayern Strikes

Bayern Munich has been in superb form this year in the Champions League. The German Champions finished at the top in their group by winning all six games. They are set to face Chelsea in the round of 16 next month.

Rekordmeister has been struggling to reach the finals of the Champions League for the past seven seasons. They are not favourites this term, but the current squad has the potential to beat anyone on their way and go all the way in the tournament. If all the players remain fit in the next four months, then Die Roten have a chance to do something special in Europe.

Kimmich will have a big role to play in making Bayern a successful team in Europe. The German will have to dominate top midfield players in Europe to make sure that Rekordmeister has an edge in such encounters. His performance against Tottenham Hotspurs in October should be the benchmark for him when he comes up against top European clubs.

Bayern is also now eager to continue Kimmich in midfield as they gave the green signal to sign a right-back this month. The arrival of Alvaro Odriozola means that Kimmich will not have to play in the right-back position anytime soon. The German international is finally getting the chance to consistently play in midfield for Die Roten. Kimmich should now focus on being the driving force of the team and become a leader of this young squad.
